Student Support
We pride ourselves in being an inclusive and welcoming school. We celebrate the diversity of our community, and aim to be a place where everyone can feel empowered.
We want every student to feel challenged and inspired, without being overwhelmed. This is why we ensure they have access to support and additional services to help them get the most out of their school experience.
Learning Support
Our learning support teachers work closely with classroom teachers to give students the right help at the right time.
This may include in-class support, individual or small group instruction. We adopt a range of flexible strategies to make sure our help is right for your child.
Students with diagnosed learning difficulties also have access to an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) so all adults know how best to empower and accommodate them.
English as an Additional Language
We are a proudly diverse school, with over 50 nationalities represented in our community.
Many of our students speak different languages. Therefore we have an English as an Additional Language program to help them build their English language skills.
Our language of tuition is English, so proficiency is important to make sure that every student gets the most from the education. New applicants to Middle and Upper School (Grades 6-12) may be asked to complete a placement assessment to gauge their language level.
In Lower School, student support teachers work alongside classroom teachers to help build language skills. In the Middle and Upper Schools, separate EAL classes are available if required. These can replace or supplement mainstream English classes.
Parents are strongly encouraged to help their children develop their language skills at home.
Speech and Language Therapy
Our Speech-language pathologists and therapists identify, evaluate and treat a range of speech, language and communication difficulties.
Working with students of all ages, they help them to communicate to the best of their abilities. Their services are available on all school campuses.
At ZIS, we emphasize close collaboration between parents, teachers, learning support and other professionals to ensure that a consistent and empowering strategy is put in place for every child.
Our therapists are experienced in supporting students from multilingual backgrounds.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy is an important aspect of support for many children in the Lower School. While we do not have on-campus provision for Occupational Therapy, our student support teachers are able to assist families in connecting with Occupational Therapists in our community.
Typically, teachers would recommend therapy to support:
- Gross motor skills
- Fine motor skills (including handwriting)
- Self-help skills
- Sensory processing and integration
- Visual perception skills
Students enrolled in the ILP (Individualised Learning Provision) are able to receive Occupational Therapy support as part of their program in the Lower School.
Individualized Learning Provision (ILP)
We offer Individualized Learning Provision (ILP) to students who could benefit from small group, individual instruction and flexible programming.
The services provided may include (but are not limited to):
- Individualized reading or math assistance
- Functional academics
- Instruction in adapting behavior and social skills
- Emotional support
We work in inclusive classroom settings where possible, and offer services that are both rigorous and supportive.

Health Services
We have specialized nurses on each campus to support students and staff. They can help with illness and well-being as well as general health and wellness.
Students should always inform their class teacher if they wish to see a nurse, except in an emergency. They can make their own appointment, or drop in during opening times.
- Primary Campus Health Office is open Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 16:30
- Secondary Campus Health Office is open Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 16:30
The campus nurse can also provide information about local healthcare specialists.
