English 10 explores elements of language and its use through the study of literature, nonfiction, and media. Emphasis is placed on close critical reading with attention to a range of literary and rhetorical devices. Students develop their process writing skills, from planning to revision, with increased emphasis on the academic style necessary for subsequent study. Students also develop research skills through planning and writing a synthesis essay.
