IB Language A Literature SL - Self-taught 2026/27

(2-year course)

Grades: 11-12 (two-year course)

Subject Area/Course Credit: World Language, 1 credit each year

Prerequisite: Suitable for students with native or near-native language skills who can study literary works independently with teacher support.

The School-Supported Self-Taught (SSST) Language A course in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme allows students to study their strongest first language when the school does not offer it as a regular class. Students work independently through literature in their language while receiving guidance from a teacher at the school who supports their progress and assessment preparation. The course develops advanced reading, writing, and analytical skills through the study of literary works and culminates in the standard Language A assessments. This option helps multilingual students maintain academic literacy in their home language while completing the full Diploma Programme.
