On Thursday, we welcomed back Freddy Macdonald, Class of 2019, for a special all-school assembly. In conversation with Ethan, a Grade 12 student and Student Council President, Freddy reflected on his journey, from making short films at ZIS to directing seasoned actors and premiering on major industry stages.
His visit coincided with the Swiss premiere of Sew Torn, now showing in cinemas across Switzerland. The film began as a Grade 12 independent study project at ZIS, a powerful example of where passion and creative courage can lead.
Freddy spoke about how the ZIS values of Courage, Humility, Respect, and Joy helped shape his path, and encouraged students to take risks, follow their interests, and share their work boldly.
After the assembly, he continued the conversation with students interested in filmmaking and the arts, offering insights and inspiration.
We’re deeply grateful to our alumni community, whose visits continue to inspire, guide, and remind our students of what’s possible.
