Global Online Academy (from 2026/27)

Grades: 9-12
Subject Area / Course Credit: varies
Pre-requisite: by application only and with approval by assistant principal

Upper School students may enroll in Global Online Academy (GOA) courses as part of their academic program. GOA is a nonprofit consortium of leading independent schools from around the world that offers rigorous, interactive online courses designed to foster global collaboration, learner agency, and modern competencies such as communication, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. Most GOA courses run for one semester and earn 0.5 credits; select year-long courses earn 1.0 credit.

The GOA Coordinator provides an orientation to the online learning environment and supports students throughout their course. GOA courses are highly interactive and combine asynchronous coursework with regular collaboration across time zones. Students should expect to engage with their course frequently throughout the week, and should note that the GOA calendar does not always align with ZIS vacation periods. Students may be required to participate in their GOA course during ZIS breaks.

For more information about GOA, visit: www.globalonlineacademy.org

Students in Grades 9–12 may enroll in GOA courses, with costs covered by ZIS, under the following conditions:

  • when an unresolvable scheduling conflict occurs
  • when ZIS does not offer a required or desired course
  • when needed for credit recovery

Students who wish to take a GOA course as an elective that ZIS does not offer may do so, but the course fee will be the responsibility of the family.
