Grades: 11–12 (two-year course)

Subject Area/Course Credit: World Language, 1 credit each year

Prerequisite: None

IB French ab initio SL is a two-year course designed for students who have no prior knowledge of the French language and plan to take the IB exam at the end of the second year. Using a communicative approach, students are introduced to the target language and its culture and learn to master a number of everyday situations in French. Reading, writing, speaking and listening are equally stressed. Upon completion of this course, students should be confident with the following grammar principles: present tense, past tenses, imperative, future tense, reflexive verbs, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. At the end of this course students are prepared to sit an external examination to receive the European Language certificate, the TELC (The European Language Certificates), corresponding to their current level, if they so choose.
