Peer mentors serve as coaches for younger students to support those students in their development as self-directed learners. Peer mentors are scheduled in a learning support class, content area class, or the Individualized Learning Provision (ILP). Peer mentors might work with one student, multiple students or the whole class. Peer mentors engage in training and receive coaching so they can learn effective strategies for being a mentor. Students receive a credit by meeting the expectations of their assigned teacher and by successfully completing a portfolio assessment.
