Choir

Grades: 9, 10, 11, and 12. This course can be taken over multiple years.

Subject Area/Course Credit: Creative Arts, 1 credit

Prerequisite: Enjoy singing, group collaboration and want to improve!

Choir is for students who love to sing and explore the power of their voice. In this course, students will develop healthy vocal technique while performing a diverse mix of music—from classical and jazz to pop, traditional, and world music, often in multiple languages.

Students will collaborate in both large and small ensembles, building teamwork, confidence, and musical awareness. Classes include listening, reflection, and guided feedback to help students think creatively about their singing and performance. Along the way, students will discover techniques used by their favorite artists and learn how to apply them to their own voice.

Performances, both in-class and public, are a highlight of the course. Students may also have opportunities to audition for the AMIS or SGIS Honor Choir Festivals. Participation in Choir can also provide a strong foundation for future courses such as IB Music or AP Music Theory.
