Year Long Course
Prerequisite: Students in Concert Band usually have at least two years of experience on their instrument and have the ability to read music. The following instruments make up the Concert Band: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone, Tuba, and Percussion. Students must rent or own their own instrument.
Band is a one-year course in instrumental technique, ensemble playing, musicianship, and music-reading. The curricular aims are to improve rhythm and note-reading skills, playing range, refine technique, and to learn to play with appropriate expression. The projects for the year include: the “Bands Together” concert, performed with the Upper School Band; the Winter and Spring Arts Festivals; and Middle School assembly performances.
Enrollment in Middle School Band is required for students who wish to audition for the AMIS Middle School Honor Band.
