String Orchestra

Year Long Course

Year long course.

Prerequisite: Students in String Orchestra usually have at least 2-3 years of experience on their instrument and have the ability to read music. The following instruments make up the String Orchestra: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass.

Students must rent or own their instrument.

Please note that guitar, harp, or piano are not instruments that are included in String Orchestra

In String Orchestra for Grades 7 and 8, students will take further steps to improve their technique and musicianship, gradually adding more sophisticated means of musical expression in a collaborative and energized environment. Students will continue to develop the skills of rhythm, technique, intonation, articulation, key signatures and dynamics as they relate to the performance pieces. Musicality becomes a major topic as the students learn how to express and communicate musical ideas. The students also continue to work on the art of ensemble playing with a focus on presentation, listening, respect, balance, preparation, and leadership within a group. The students’ final performances will take place at the Winter and Spring Arts Festivals, as well as the annual String Fling with all Orchestra students grades 6-12, with other opportunities encouraged...

Enrollment in Middle School Orchestras is required for students who wish to audition for the AMIS Middle School Honor Orchestra (amis-online.org for more information) and Middle School assembly performances.
