Foundation Art & Design

Foundation Art and Design is designed to provide a solid platform from which to move onto the more advanced Art classes. Over the course of the year students will experience a variety of subjects and approaches to looking. Skills will be developed in a range of two and three-dimensional media, particularly drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and graphic design. Developing an understanding of the historical and cultural context relating to class themes will be an integral component of the curriculum. Students who successfully complete this course may be considered for Studio Art, Digital Photography, Digital Graphic Design,  IB Visual Arts, or AP Drawing or AP 3-D Art & Design.

Performance in this class will be evaluated on individual merit. Personal growth, knowledge and understanding will all be rewarded in course grades. The nature of this subject requires you to be a self-motivated learner, be mature/responsible and be considerate of others when sharing equipment. This course will challenge you to be open minded and be receptive to information and ideas which may challenge preconceived beliefs. This course will provide you opportunities to creatively engage with ideas and materials, experimenting with them in novel and possibly counter-intuitive ways.
