Spanish ab initio SL is a two-year course designed for students who have no prior knowledge of the Spanish language and plan to take the IB exam at the end of the second year. Using a communicative approach, students are introduced to the target language and its culture and learn to master a number of everyday situations in Spanish. Reading, writing, speaking and listening are equally stressed. Upon completion of this course, students should be confident with the following grammar principles: present tense, past tenses, imperative, future tense, reflexive verbs, pronouns, verbal modes indicative and subjunctive, prepositions and conjunctions. At the end of this course students will also be given the opportunity to sit an external examination to receive the European Language certificate, the DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language), corresponding to their current level.
