German B2.2

Grades: 9 or 10

Subject Area/Course Credit: World Language, 1 credit each year

Prerequisite: German B2.1, or placement test, or teacher recommendation

This course is designed for students who speak German fluently, either because they have previously been instructed in a German for fluent speakers class, or because they are operating on a B2 level. These students mainly need to improve their written and reading skills to be able to progress to the Fluent Speakers II course or the IB German A Language and Literature SL course. Students become successful readers of both literary and non-literary texts, and develop their writing skills for a variety of purposes and audiences text types (for example blog entry, creative writing, essay). Additional support is given to improve vocabulary and grammar skills in order to develop the student’s academic language. German B2.2  grammar instruction continues the reinforcement and consolidation of grammatical concepts taught in previous classes. The students will learn to express themselves in writing and orally on different conversational topics of modern society. They will be prepared for different test components of the B2 Goethe certificate. Emphasis is also placed  on the development of textual analysis, essay writing, creative writing, presentations and discussions.
