Process for the retention of primary students

Process for the retention of primary students

At ZIS, a child normally progresses from one grade level to the next according to age as each grade level offers a variety of learning experiences designed to meet individual needs and abilities. However, from time to time, situations may arise when it would be in the child’s best interest to continue in the same grade level for an additional year. This would usually be due to developmental or social concerns which would prevent the student from drawing the maximum benefit from the subsequent year’s program. Academic concerns could also play a role.

Process for the promotion of primary students

Process for the promotion of primary students

At ZIS, a child normally progresses from one grade level to the next, according to age as each grade level offers a variety of learning experiences to meet individual needs and abilities. The School only recommends that a child is promoted when they are: old for the class, will cope with the social and emotional demands of a higher grade, are physically similar in size to the children in the grade above, and will academically thrive in the grade level above. Generally, however, the School believes that children are best placed with children of a similar age and that the development of a differentiated program is more desirable than promotion.
