Alumnus Inspires Future Scientists

Alumnus Inspires Future Scientists

Diederik J. Van Vliet, Class of 2007, hosted science students in Grades 11 and 12 for a half-day program at Tecan Labs.

Students toured the offices, met scientists, and learned about Tecan’s innovations in lab automation. Diederik and his colleagues shared their career paths, offering students real-world insights into opportunities in the biosciences.

A special highlight was Diederik inviting Joe Amato, his former teacher, to join the program, showcasing the lasting impact of mentorship. Joe is also the 2022 recipient of the John Mattern Alumni Award for his work in the classroom.

This visit is part of our ongoing science speaker series, celebrating alumni like Diederik who continue to inspire and support the school community. Thank you to Diederik and the Tecan team for making this visit memorable for students!
